In the bold and often-bloody Dead Space, gamers will step into a third-person sci-fi survival horror experience that promises to deliver the ultimate in psychological thrills and gruesome action. Last month EA Europe shocked horror fans with moving the game's release forward, and the North American release is also ahead of schedule. Originally scheduled for release on Oct. 21, the console versions will launch Oct. 14, with the PC edition to follow on Oct. 20.

Last week Square Enix made a surprise, but friendly, offer to acquire Tecmo, offering the Ninja Gaiden publisher a 30% premium, a bid that would expire Sept. 4, without further attempts in case of rejection. With that deadline now expired, Tecmo issued a statement that it is indeed not going to accept Square Enix's friendly takeover bid, but is instead talking to KOEI about merging the two companies.

A new “Games Market in Korea” study finds that approximately 67% of Korean users in their 20s purchase paid digital content, with one of the fastest growing segments being casual games, that are free-to-play, easy-to-learn and can be played in “micro-slices” of time of ten minutes or less. While the weekend is being dominated by PAX, Microsoft Japan held its 4th annual press conference in Tokyo, where it ran through its fall lineup of titles. Starting off with showing that hardware sales have spiked, especially since the Tales of Vesperia launch last month, Microsoft revealed it is bringing over Fable 2, Fallout 3, HAWX, Mass Effect, Oblivion and Winning Eleven. New titles revealed are Namco-Bandai/KOEI's mecha game Dynasty Warriors GUNDAM 2 and From Software's cinematic action game Ninja Blade, produced by Lost Planet's designer Keiji Nakoka. Microsoft also announced it is cutting the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade model by 8,000 yen ($73.92) to 19,800 yen (making it cheaper than the Wii), as well as the 2 hard drive-enabled models by 5,000-8,000 yen.
