Earlier this week, the Internet was on fiyah when Midway Austin's creative director Harvey Smith, lead designer of Ion Storm's Deus Ex titles, publicly criticized Blacksite: Area 51, for which he was lead designer, as being "f***ed up." Smith made the controversial statement at a Montreal International Game Summit lecture, blaming poor handling and pressure to share tech to get the title out before it was ready. Earlier, Microsoft revealed that with the Dec. 4th fall dashboard update, Xbox Live members would be able to check out the friends lists of fellow Xbox Live members, chat and compare games and Achievements, as well as utilize the family timer. a million copies on the first day it goes on sale in order to recoup its costly production, but that MGS 4 might be last in a dying breed on console exclusives. A few days ago, Valve announced it would have Universe at War: Earth Assault available for download on launch day, but now it seems SEGA is expanding its Steam lineup with The Golden Compass, Sega Rally Revo, Sega Revo, Worldwide Soccer Manager, Futbol Manager and more. In addition to the new games, Sega titles previously released on Steam to customers in North America, such as Medieval II: Total War and Rome: Total War, are now available to Steam gamers in Europe and most of the world.

A few years back Spanish Commandos developer Pyro Studios created Ilion Animation Studios to get foot in the door in the movie industry, and it has just
secured a $60 million deal with New Line Cinema for Planet 51, written by Shrek's Joe Stillman, scheduled for March 2009. Pyro Studios are developing a game based on the movie, presumably on Wii, PS2, X360, PS3 and PC. You are Capt. Charles "Chuck" Baker, an astronaut unwittingly invading Planet 51, who has to avoid being captured, recover your spacecraft, and return to Earth. Both projects are tentatively scheduled for March 2009.

The Chronicles of Spellborn is an MMORPG set in the Enclave of the Five Sacrifices. Developed by Dutch studio Spellborn, previously known for Alpha Black Zero, it uses the Unreal 2.5 Engine. Players can customize, tweak and tune their fighting characteristics whichever way they like, by using a wide variety of “Sigils” that can be attached to the character.
