The exodus started when soon-to-be mega-publisher Activision/Blizzard decided to bail out of E3 and not renew its ESA membership, after which id Software and LucasArts followed suit and decided to not renew their memberships while still attending next month's E3 Media & Business Summit. Crave Entertainment, known for titles such as World Championship Poker and Pinball Hall of Fame,
has also left the ESA while still attending E3, and so far, neither party has issued any statements.

When Ninja Gaiden developer Tomonobu Itagaki left Tecmo he let his discontent be heard, which apparently resulted in more employees leaving and filing lawsuit. Now
Tecmo has slapped Itagaki with a gag order, preventing him from disclosing or leaking information regarding its game software, sales, development or any other company secrets, using newspapers, magazines, and the Internet to criticize Tecmo software and employees, obstructing its business through slanderous remarks to third parties, nor can Itagaki accept interviews regarding Tecmo or talk to the press about the company.
