After the announcement of the downsizing E3 next year, GSTAR Organizing Committee said it would enable GSTAR to expand in size and content as well as establish an exhibition identity. GSTAR (Game Show & Trade, All-Round) is to be held on November 9 - 12 in Korea.

The Consumer Electronics Association, organizers of the consumer technology tradeshow, announced today that it is forming an advisory committee to solicit gaming industry feedback and explore the viability of a West Coast event in late spring 2007 focused on the gaming and entertainment marketplace.

Gen Con today announced its plans to expand the offerings of the company's gaming shows. Gen Con will increase venue space and change a location to better incorporate the video game business as a focus of the Gen Con shows. This will give video game manufacturers, developers, publishers and others, who traditionally attended E3, a place to feature their products to the trade, media and consumers alike.

Since the official
E3 downsize announcement earlier today, plenty of speculations and predictions have been floating around, but a few things seem to jump out and have some truth to them. E3 will no longer be held at the Staples Center, but indications are that instead, several events will take place at various hotels and venues in Los Angeles. The second big change is the date –
E3 will move from May to July, although a specific timeframe has not been pinned down yet.

Mainly due to out of control spiraling costs, various publishers, led by Electronic Arts, are considering not attending or downsizing E3 2007, resulting in other companies questioning if it's worth the trouble at all. Major publishers have requested a meeting with the organizing Entertainment Software Association body to discuss finances. With certain budgets reaching double digit millions, executives wonder if such money might not be better spent focussing on their own in-house products, instead of an event promoting the industry. An official announcement from the ESA, with possible changes, is expected in the next few days.
