Counter-strike: Source is the remake of the most popular online FPS ever using Valve's latest Source engine, which also powers Half-Life 2. 'Counter-Strike: Source' features all the content CS fans are familiar with, but with excellent graphics. Valve Opens 'Counter-Strike Source' Beta

Valve's Doug Lombarbi sends out notice that the 'Counter-Strike Source' Beta has commenced.

"Phase 1 of the Counter-Strike: Source beta has opened at cyber cafes that subscribe to the Valve Cyber Café Program. A full listing of those venues can be found here. Later this month, the beta will be extended to owners of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and ATIHalf-Life 2 video card bundle owners."

'Counter-Strike: Source' Beta Pre-Loading to Cyber Cafés

On Wednesday, this first phase of the beta will open and the game will be playable at all cyber cafes that subscribe to the Valve Cyber Café Program. Later this month, the beta will be extended to owners of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and ATI Fulfillment Coupon holders. This beta serves as a compatibility test of the Source engine as we near completion of development on Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source. During this limited-time beta, issues can be reported using the in-game bug-reporting tool. In addition any crashes will automatically generate a report back to Valve’s bug database.

'Counter-Strike' Gets New Steam Update

The official Steam website has word that an update for CS:CZ and HLTV has just been released. Steam will update itself automatically when you restart. CZ servers will need to be restarted in order to run this update. CS:CZ adds 2 new maps (de_truth_cz & de_corruption_cz), as well as a slew of game tweaks but also three previously unreleased 'Deleted Scenes' missions Fastline, Sandstorm, and Pipe Dream.

'Counter-Strike: Condition Zero' v1.2 Coming Next Week

Version 1.2 of CS:CZ will be released next week via Steam. The update includes high-definition hostage models with all-new AI, 2 new player models, brand new maps, and other enhancements. The improved hostages will show emotions such as fear, attempt to escape on their own if ignored, and even talk to the player to give clues about what they've seen. The new player models feature the Russian SPETSNAZ counter-terrorist and Militia terrorist.

The Xbox version of the popular PC multiplayer shooter will contain all the current content of the PC version plus all of the content of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero single player game. There will be some Xbox exclusive content as well, including at least five new multiplayer levels, two new weapons (the Syringe and Machete) and some graphical improvements including 24 bit textures and better lighting and particle effects..
