Counter-strike: Source is the remake of the most popular online FPS ever using Valve's latest Source engine, which also powers Half-Life 2. Valve's Doug Lombarbi sends out notice that the 'Counter-Strike Source' Beta has commenced.

"Phase 1 of the Counter-Strike: Source beta has opened at cyber cafes that subscribe to the Valve Cyber Café Program. A full listing of those venues can be found here. Later this month, the beta will be extended to owners of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and ATIHalf-Life 2 video card bundle owners."

On Wednesday, this first phase of the beta will open and the game will be playable at all cyber cafes that subscribe to the Valve Cyber Café Program. Later this month, the beta will be extended to owners of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and ATI Fulfillment Coupon holders. This beta serves as a compatibility test of the Source engine as we near completion of development on Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source. During this limited-time beta, issues can be reported using the in-game bug-reporting tool. In addition any crashes will automatically generate a report back to Valve’s bug database.

The beta will first be open to subscribers of the Valve Cybercafe Program, and then extended to owners of Counter-Strike: Condition Zero. As was announced last week the official 1.2 update for CS:CZ has been released today, and all other Steam games have been updated. Steam will update itself automatically when you restart. If you want to know whats new/updated in the CS:C0 v1.2 then read more for detailed fix list.

Version 1.2 of CS:CZ will be released next week via Steam. The update includes high-definition hostage models with all-new AI, 2 new player models, brand new maps, and other enhancements. The improved hostages will show emotions such as fear, attempt to escape on their own if ignored, and even talk to the player to give clues about what they've seen. The new player models feature the Russian SPETSNAZ counter-terrorist and Militia terrorist.
