While Atari isn't exactly flourishing financially, it's still not as bad off as Midway and has been on a spending spree, signing a slew of titles in the past few months. At its Atari Live press event in London today, Infogrames president Phil Harrison revealed that the French publisher plans on bringing back several of its key, but dormant, franchise in the future. While there was nothing to announce just yet, we can expect new installments in the Baldur's Gate, Dungeons & Dragons and Test Drive franchises.

The Baldur's Gate series are still considered by many some of the best RPG games around, developed by Bioware, but hasn't been heard of since 2001's Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal. At some point Black Isle Studios was said to be working on a 3rd installment until it went belly up, after which several key members went on to form Obsidian Entertainment, who took over the Neverwinter Nights franchise from Bioware.
Rumor has it that a "more than capable" developer is working on BG 3, tentatively scheduled for late 2009, and while Atari declined to comment, it did confirm it holds the license.

Consider it a big rumor but according to a UK PC Gamer reader the latest issue
reveals that Baldur's Gate 3 is in development. While details are slim, the unconfirmed article claims that BG3 is not done by Bioware but rather a developer "that believes in pushing technology forward," is not expected for at least another 2 years, and will not be classically isometric. A
second sighting, but could be the same user trolling.
The anticipated sequel has arrived. Embark on a new adventure in Baldur's Gate and brave terrible dangers in search of fortune, glory, and power. Face a multitude of sinister enemies while traveling through many spectacular environments in this action-packed fantasy game.
