Set 50 years after the climactic events of the original Red Faction, this third-person, open-world action-shooter will return to Mars and once again redefine the limits of destruction-based gameplay. Last week, we reported that Pyro Studios, currently working on Planet 51, supposedly revealed during an interview at GamesCom that the Spanish studio will be working on a new installment in its Commandos franchise, which now has been denied, deemed false and dismissed as wishful thinking. While the first two titles were a big success, the 3rd one, making the move from strategy to 3D FPS, was not. No further details or projected release dates were disclosed.

Mass Effect invites players to take the role of Commander Shepard as they set out on an adventure to save the galaxy from imminent destruction. Wrought with treachery, heroism, difficult decisions and a universe filled with unique and colorful species, Mass Effect delivers a truly compelling storyline. More DLC was promised back in February, offering a much more combat-oriented and lighter-story experience, but not much has heard of it since. Xbox.com reveals that the DLC is set on a remote, top-secret Alliance space station, and will feature 13 exciting combat scenarios, giving fans another 2-3 hours worth of gaming.

A turn-based RPG that puts you in the role of a 14-year-old boy on a mission to rescue a princess from a wicked witch, Final Fantasy Gaiden no longer features a menu-based combat system but uses "charges"; you'll team up with others in a four-character squad customizable with a variety of weapons and armor.

Iceberg Interactive announced that GameStreamer has acquired the digital distribution rights to its PC games.

The BioShock movie adaptation of 2K's action game will begin production in 2010, and John Logan (The Aviator, Star Trek: Nemesis) has written the screenplay, while BioShock creator Ken Levine is consulting. Earlier this year Pirates of The Carribean's Gore Verbinski hit a snag and the BioShock film was put on hold. Excessive budget concerns made Universal Pictures ask the involved parties to look for an alternate filming location. Due to the delay the filming now conflicts with Verbinski's next movie Rango, and while he is still going to produce, the directing has been passed on to 28 Weeks Later's Juan Carlos Fresnadillo.

Former Majesco Santa Monica artist Valerie Schoman revealed that Majesco has decided to shut down the Los Angeles, California-based studio. Stargate Worlds, an MMORPG using Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 technology, provides players with a form of ranged combat unique to MMORPGs that will take full advantage of modern and science fiction weaponry, cover and terrain. Last month, it looked like Firesky/Cheyenne was about the go under, but according to studio head Shane Hensley, it has received new funding to continue development.
