Last weekend America’s top gamers competed in the inaugural World Cyber Games US Open at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, an invitation-only tournament, to determine who would qualify for a spot in the WCG US National Final. When the dust settled, 36 gamers won trips to the WCG US National Final this September.

The Dallas Mavericks will capture their first NBA championship by defeating the Miami Heat in seven games in an NBA LIVE simulation of the NBA Finals. Dallas will win its first NBA title in franchise history after forward Dirk Nowitzki grabs an offensive rebound and scores on a dunk to give the Mavericks a series-clinching 90-88 win over the Heat in Game 7.

While net revenue went up (from $222.1 to $265.1 million), net loss ballooned from $8.2 to $50.4 million, mainly due to continued retail weakness. As a result Take Two is cutting costs by closing internal development studios (so far Poptop, Indie Built, Rockstar Vienna and Frog City) as well as cancelling half a dozen titles, Snow being one. After a long period of silence, Bully was mentioned, and scheduled for release later this year.

At a press conference in Tokyo, Nintendo revealed the development of the Wii exclusive Pokémon Battle Revolution, which will use its wireless connection to interact with its NDS brethren Pokémon Diamond & Pearl, both scheduled for fall of this year. This will open various options such as playing NDS games on the TV, and using the NDS tactical screen for your Wii games. Pokémon Battle Revolution will allow you to see your NDS Pokemons battle in 3D on the Wii. While a release date was not announced, it was hinted at for end of the year in Japan.

The ESA announced that it has filed suit today in Minnesota Federal District Court, asking that the State's new video game law be overturned. Similar laws have been struck down by six courts in five years, including the Eighth Circuit which governs Minnesota, costing taxpayers thousands of dollars in legal fees.

ATI announced today that it is working with middleware provider Havok to drive physics on its latest GPUs. Using Havok FX, developers can enable more convincing environments that include richer, more detailed explosions, smoke, debris, fluids, and cloth by combining the rendering of two ATI graphics cards, with a third devoted to modeling the environment.
