Electronic Arts today announced the acquisition of Studio 33, a globally recognized developer of games in the racing genre. The team of roughly 30 Liverpool-based employees will join the existing team at EA Northwest in nearby Warrington. Both teams - a total of 75 employees - are scheduled to move to a new facility in Warrington shortly.

Microsoft Game Studios and Ensemble Studios today announced that a limited edition Kings & Myths: The Age Collection holiday compilation package, which includes four award-winning games, is now available at select North American retailers for an estimated retail price of $59.99 (U.S.). Handmark, publisher of software for Palm OS and Windows Mobile platforms for handheld devices, has signed a content publishing agreement with Sprint to provide games that can be downloaded wirelessly through PCS Vision to PCS Vision Smart Devices such as the new PCS Smart Device Treo 600 by Handspring. Currently eleven titles from Handmark will be available for purchase including Monopoly, Scrabble, Warfare Incorporated, Yahtzee, Battleship, MobileDB, and others. Titles will cost between $9.99 and $29.99 and once purchased will simply be added to the customer's PCS invoice.

Team 17 reports that Worms 3D is Gold! That's right, All 4 formats of Worms 3D (Cube, Box, PS2 and PC). All 4 (internally produced) versions are now in production for the European release date of 31st October.
This release date is for Europe only, there is still no word when the game will be released in North/South America and Far East. This is due to it having a different distributor (Atari) and separate approval processes.

Activision announced today that the company will be an exclusive sponsor of the 2003 Gravity Games and that NBC will use Activision's proprietary Tony Hawk's Underground game engine technology to illustrate the street and vert athlete performances during the October 12, October 19 and October 26 Gravity Games broadcasts.

Earlier today VU Games president of international operations, told Reuters the source code theft would result in a four month delay (Valve, though, has not confirmed that delay), pushing Half-Life 2 back to April 2004 (
story). Now
CNN reports following:
When hackers broke into the computing system of Valve Software, they stole more than just the source code to Half-Life 2. They also stole enough game maps and other components to put together a playable build of the game. Today, five days after the first leak, they have released that build.
Today's release of a playable version of the game brings Vivendi's comments from earlier today into question. Ramboz told Reuters "a third of the source code was stolen". However, with the stolen game now out, it's possible a more complete version of the source code was taken...

PC.IGN let us know that Commandos 3: Destination Berlin from Eidos has received gold status and is heading to production. While this applies to both the German and English versions of the game, the only shipping date confirmed is for Germany, where the game is set to ship October 24.
