The Japanese unit of U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp. said Thursday it has appointed Yoshihiro Murayama as general manager of the unit's Xbox division. The hire of the game-industry veteran signifies the company's commitment to catching up with industry rival Sony Corp. and its popular PlayStation 2 game console. He begins his new role on Oct. 1.

Eve Of Destruction will contain not only new skins, vehicles and new objects, it features 8 complete new custom maps. Each map is different in their own way (from realistic to fun maps) and partially adapted to the Indochina Vietnam Conflict. This weekend at the EA SPORTS 500 race at Talladega Superspeedway, the competition heats up early and often amongst top NASCAR drivers. In addition to the race excitement on Sunday, several other weekend activities are planned, including head-to-head racing between top drivers of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series as Matt Kenseth, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson, and Ryan Newman pick up the controllers and race in the 3rd Annual EA SPORTS Drivers Challenge on Friday night. On Saturday, Dale Earnhardt Jr., last year's EA SPORTS 500 race winner and avid videogame player, is scheduled to trade paint with an EA SPORTS NASCAR Thunder 2004 video game fan. The EA SPORTS 500 race will be telecast on NBC Sunday, September 28 at 12:30 p.m. EST.

Electronic Arts today announced the release of the first expansion pack for SimCity 4, SimCity 4 Rush Hour Expansion Pack. For the first time in SimCity history, players can take charge of vehicles in their cities to drive or solve missions that earn reward buildings and vehicles. Konami of Europe has announced that Pierluigi Collina - the most respected referee in the modern game and arguably one of the most regonisable faces in football - will be on the packaging of Pro Evolution Soccer 3.
