Microsoft is launching a new initiative to get its free Xbox Live Silver members to sing up for Gold membership, and is temporarily reducing the monthly fee to $1. This, however, is not a lasting price; after one month, the subscription will auto-renew to the premium price (unless you cancel real quick).
