The U.S. Army today announced that its America's Army: Operations computer game has gone gold. The game will be available on a free CD at the beginning of October at local Army Recruiting stations, ROTC Detachment and Army events to be listed at America's Army. The game CD will feature many missions that can be downloaded from a number of mirrored sites listed at Go Army and Aamerica's Army, as well as several exclusive levels including swamp raid and mountain ambush missions.

THQ Inc. today announced that development on its highly anticipated action, role-playing title, "Summoner 2" for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system is complete. "Summoner 2," the sequel to one of the top-selling PlayStation 2 launch titles, "Summoner," is scheduled to ship on September 13. Developed by THQ's studio, Volition, creators of "Red Faction," "Summoner 2" features an enhanced game engine, stunning graphics, an intense real-time combat system and a compelling storyline.

GameHouse announced today that it has made its 100,000th sale of its downloadable game, Super Collapse, less than 10 months after it was released. “Collapse has been wildly popular —this is our first downloadable game to achieve this mile marker so quickly,” says Garr Godfrey, cofounder of GameHouse, which features a variety of free and downloadable games on its web site. “The demand for Collapse has been so unbelievable that we are considering introductions of similar games,” concludes Godfrey, hinting there soon may be a new offering in the works. Super Collapse, released last November, was named 2001 Game of the Year by RealNetworks. The objective is to collapse blocks before they rise to the top of the screen, with game play accelerating as players progress to new levels. Available for both PC and Mac OS X, the game features bonus levels that are not available on previous versions, in addition to a host of other features.

Premier videogame publisher and developer Sammy Studios unveiled today at the European Computer Trade Show (ECTS) in London the expansion of its development operation to two California locations, Carlsbad and Los Angeles (formerly Sammy Entertainment). Ubi Soft Entertainment today announced a pre-order program for Catz 5 and Dogz 5, the newest editions of its best-selling Petz family. Petz fans can now pre-order both titles through Ubi.com or Amazon.com reserving their copies for when the games hit North American retail shelves in mid-November. Additionally, Ubi Soft announced that anyone purchasing any two Petz 5 titles (two copies of Catz 5 or Dogz 5, or one of each) can also receive a $10 mail-in rebate. Catz 5 and Dogz 5 have an MSRP of $29.99 each.

Ubi Soft Entertainment has released a few gameplay movie from their upcoming shooter, XIII. It features music and sound, the :39 second video is titled "Stealth," as it demonstrates all manner of skulking around, as well as the game's distinctive cel-shaded graphics. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell will release in time for the lucrative Christmas 2002 market exclusively on Xbox, with a PC version to appear by the end of the year. Xbox is the lead development platform for the game, which has been designed to take full advantage of the advanced graphics and sound capabilities of Xbox. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell will also feature online elements using the recently announced Xbox Live service.
