A few weeks back Activision confirmed a new installment in the Call of Duty franchise was in the works, albeit not by Infinity War, but rather by Treyarch. Promising a "new theatre of war," Call of Duty 5, using the COD 4 engine,
goes back to WWII but this time set in the Pacific (and Russia's advance into Berlin) according to UK magazine GamesTM. COD5 will be darker, scarier with enemies using different tactics (hiding in trees, sneaking, suicidal etc.) For the first time in the series the game will feature 4-player co-op while multiplayer includes vehicles, squad based elements, a return of COD4's perks, and support for the Wii zapper.

Nollenberger Capital Partners analyst Todd Greenwald has commented on the early success of Activision's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, saying that it may very well outpace Halo 3's record-breaking sales. Released earlier this week, most retail stores have already sold out, with only pre-orders being assured. "Keep in mind, CoD4 is launching on four times as many platforms (360, PS3, PC, DS) as Halo 3 (360). Halo 3 has so far sold about four million units. A year ago, Call of Duty 3 sold about three million units, and we anticipate this year's version could do four million or more," he predicted.
