The video game industry has been in talks with actors unions for quite some time now, but when talks broke down last December it has become clear that unions are leaning towards their only alternative, striking. The breakdown was over ongoing payments to actors and actresses for each copy of a game sold to which they contribute their voices and likenesses, while the game publishers want to stick to one payment up-front.

The creators of the massively popular computer game franchise "Diablo" announced today the formation of their new entertainment software development company, Flagship Studios. Flagship Studios has been founded by David Brevik, Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer, Bill Roper and Kenneth Williams, all former executives at Blizzard North. David Brevik served as President while Max Schaefer, Erich Schaefer and Bill Roper held Vice President positions within the company. Ken Williams was Blizzard North's Director of Business and Operations. Together, the management and executive team for Flagship Studios represents over 45 years of game development experience.

The Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, has sent a goodwill message to London Games Week and has praised the creativity of the games industry in general. His message comes in a week when nearly every major company has confirmed their participation in the event, set to take place in Earls Court in four weeks time.

Simon & Schuster Interactive Teams With Cable Industry

Three high profile veterans of the computer games industry are joining forces at Real Time Worlds, the Scottish based games development studio. David Jones, creator of Lemmings and the infamous Grand Theft Auto franchises has joined forces with Ian Hetherington, former Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and founder of Psygnosis, and Tony Harman the former Director of Development and Acquisition at Nintendo of America. The three industry veterans have united to back Jones' latest original concepts and technologies. They are planning to utilise their unique distribution experience to maximize the revenue potential for Real Time Worlds products now in development.
E3Expo 2003 Draws More Than 62,000 Industry Professionals

More than 62,000 industry professionals from more than 80 countries gathered at the Los Angeles Convention Center for the ninth annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3Expo), the world's premier interactive entertainment trade show. According to the show's owner, the Interactive Digital Software Association (IDSA), approximately 400 exhibitors showcased thousands of software titles, including more than 1,350 never-before-seen computer and video game related products, occupying 520,000 net square feet of exhibit space. Exhibitors reported 83 percent of these products will be found on store shelves this holiday season.
