Even Balance has been contracted by Monolith to integrate PunkBuster into VUGames' FPS F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon). PunkBuster will be available for F.E.A.R. in an upcoming downloadable game update patch (thanks FEARHQ). We will of course have the patch available on
our fileserver network when its released.

F.E.A.R. is an intense first person close-quarters combat experience with rich atmosphere and an engaging, paranormal horror storyline. Various people have complained about problems with the latest v1.02 patch that they could no longer start up the game due to the securom copy protection. While it still does not seem to resolve all issues with the game, Securom has issued a hotfix to address "some" of the issues, such as problems were the exe was sitting in taskmanager without actually launching the game, or the need to alt+tab in order to play online. In an interview with German magazine PC Games, senior producer Craig Hubbard revealed that Monolith is, or will be, working on an addon for its FPS F.E.A.R. While no additional details were provided, Craig did admit, saying "for sure" that the ending of the game was intentionally left open for a possible addon. According to Vivendi's FEAR community manager, people who are having performance issues with the retail version of FEAR, are all pirates!
In this community thread Greg raised quite a ruckus when people who pre-ordered Monolith's FPS F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) complained of stuttering and performance issues, by calling them pirates. While apparently FEAR apparently has been warezed, people claim certain online outlets have shipped the game ahead of tomorrow's official release date. While pirates usually only remove protections, it is very questionable how such impacts performance at all.
UPDATE: Vivendi's FEAR community manager has
issued an apology stating that he did not mean to generalize the issue.

VU Games announced today that it will release the F.E.A.R. multiplayer demo on Thursday, September 29 at 8:00 a.m. PDT. The 550MB demo will feature two maps: Factory, which will be a deathmatch map, and support team deathmatch, slow-motion team deathmatch, and slow-motion deathmatch, while Facility, a capture the flag map will support slow-motion capture the flag. According to the rumor section in the newest Official Xbox Magazine issue, Monolith's FEAR is indeed in the works for Microsoft's next-gen Xbox 360 and would already be running on X360 dev kits. F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) is an intense combat experience with rich atmosphere and an engaging story presented entirely in first person. No further details or possible release date are mentioned, so take it with a grain of salt.

Revealed a couple weeks ago, but immediately removed, Vivendi today officially announced that Sierra's F.E.A.R. (First Encounter Assault Recon) will be released in a Director’s Edition DVD format, which will include exclusive content, including a Making of F.E.A.R. documentary, a developer’s roundtable commentary video, live action declassified interviews with Alma, and an exclusive F.E.A.R. machinima episode from Rooster Teeth Productions of Red vs. Blue fame.
