The 3DO Company announced today the completion of an agreement with founder and chief executive officer Trip Hawkins that will provide $10 million in financial support to the company. A clip from announcement:

"3DO is poised to release hit games in 2003, beginning with our top-ranked High Heat Major League Baseball 2004 in February," said Hawkins. "This agreement is a big step forward on our goals of revenue growth and a return to profitability. Our confidence is growing from good previews from the gaming press for our 2003 product slate, and promising purchase order demand for our initial 2003 releases."

Computer gaming fans can expect to see one of the most realistic games to date when Sony Computer Entertainment Europe releases "The Getaway" on December 6. The long-awaited Playstation 2 game promises high-speed chases, fires, explosions and gun battles that make players feel like they're part of an action-packed film. The setting is a 30-mile section of the foggy streets of London so realistic that players can see the cracks in the pavement. The more than 100 life-like characters and elaborate scenery would have been impossible to create in a timely manner without the help of new 3D scanning and facial morphing technologies.

Encore today announced that Dragon's Lair 3D-Return to the Lair for the Nintendo GameCube™ has gone gold. This completely new, built-from-the-ground-up version of the legendary Dragon's Lair coin-op phenomenon is scheduled to ship to store shelves by year end; the "Teen" rated game will retail for approximately $50. The PlayStation2 version,­ which will have identical content and gameplay, ­is still scheduled for release at the end of first quarter next year.

The 3DO Company today announced that "Heroes of Might and Magic IV" for the Macintosh has shipped to retail stores. The latest in the award-winning "Might and Magic" series, "Heroes IV" features six campaigns, over 60 new creatures and stunning graphics.

ATI Technologies Inc. today announced that the grand-prize winner of the upcoming ATI - VE3D Unreal Tournament 2003 Deathmatch Challenge - sponsored by ATI and VE3D.com - will receive the award-winning RADEON 9700 PRO (valued at US $399) and US $1,000 in cash.

The online tournament, beginning December 12, 2002, will pit contestants against each other in one-on-one elimination games of Unreal Tournament 2003. The sole survivor will win the grand-prize while three runners-up will each receive a RADEON 9700 PRO board, the first in the world to support Microsoft's DirectX 9.0. The 3DO Company today announced that Street Racing Syndicate is currently in development for the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system, the Xbox video game system from Microsoft, and the Nintendo GameCube system. Scheduled for release in 2003, "SRS" captures the heart of street racing culture, and includes extensive car customization, police intervention, and high stakes competition. The game is being developed by racing game specialist Eutechnyx Ltd. which has developed such popular titles as F1 World Grand Prix 2000, 007 Racing and Le Mans 24 Hours.

Dragon's Lair 3D: Return to the Lair will release this November on Xbox/PC. The game is an ALL-NEW, 3D adventure based on the classic arcade game by legendary animator, Don Bluth. Bluth is well-known throughout animated film circles, creating such classics as the Secret of Nimh, An American Tale and the Land Before Time.
