While there still has not been any official announcement, last year Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi stated that a PSP version of Gran Turismo 4 was in the works, tentatively scheduled for spring 2005. That time frame has since long passed, and that instance was also the one and only time the title has been mentioned, until now. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan has updated
its release list which indicates that Gran Turismo 4 Mobile has been pushed back and is now listed as coming in 2006.

Sony Europe announce today that its racing game Gran Turismo 4 has set a new, all-time Day One record for PS2 software, shipping 3,182,535 units across PAL territories. In addition to the standalone software version, Gran Turismo 4 is also available as a part of a bundle featuring the newly designed slimline PlayStation 2.

Sony UK confirmed today that the European edition of its highly popular racing game 'Gran Turismo 4' has been pushed back from its original Dec. 2004 release date to Q1 2005. At the TGS earlier this year GT4 producer Kazunori Yamauchi had said that there would be a somewhat simultanious world wide release it seems Sony Europe needs more time to complete all the different localized versions (translations in 13 different languages).

Sony announced at the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) that Polyphony Digital's eagerly awaited racing game Gran Turismo 4 will be available in Japanese stores on December 3rd, while it is expected in the USA and Europe the week of December 14th. One surprising turn of events though, Gran Turismo 4 will not feature any online/multiplayer mode as this seems to have been dropped in order to meet the holiday/Christmas rush. However it was revealed that an all new GT title is scheduled for late 2005, supposedly "with" online play, although no further information was provided.
