Sony Europe released the first SingStar title on PS2 in 2004, and to date the series has sold 12 million units across PAL territories, 5 million of them in the past 12 months alone, and the brand is now expanding further into digital business via SingStore on PS3.

It's time to get creepy again as Sony Computer Entertainment Japan announced that is developing a remake of the PS2 horror game Forbidden Siren. Currently only scheduled for release in Japan on July 24th, Siren: New Translation currently has a demo available for download on PSN Japan. No word yet on when we may see it in North America or Europe.

MGS4: Guns of the Patriots is set in a war-torn future where huge conglomerates, including those in the Middle East and South America, fight for supremacy using armies of hand-picked mercenaries. After the false start earlier this week, servers crashed due to the overwhelming demand, Konami has, as promised, activated the Metal Gear Online beta. To make up for the slight delay, the beta period was extended a few days.

SCi/Eidos announced it has secured funding of $120 million, partly by entering into a strategic partnership with Warner Bros. ($30m). The UK based publisher revealed development on Tomb Raider is going as planned and is scheduled for worldwide release before Christmas 2008.

Earlier this month SEGA revealed that it was closing Rally Racing Revo developer Sega Racing Studio in Solihull, central England. Confirming rumors, Codemasters announced that it has reached an agreement with SEGA to take over the Sega Racing Studio.

GameStop will host events on Mon., April 28, 2008, at over 3,500 of its U.S. stores for the launch of Rockstar Games' Grand Theft Auto IV, which will include trivia contests, GTA character look-a-like contests and giveaways leading up to the 12:01 a.m. Tuesday release. Most participating GameStop locations will begin their events after 9:00 p.m. local time; however, customers are encouraged to contact their local store to confirm the exact time of the event.

Sony, still playing catchup after the recent Playstation Store revamp,
rolled out a new update with the Eye of Judgment Card Expansion Set 2 ($14.99), Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack ($9.99), Army of Two SSC Challenge Map Pack ($7.49). Rock Band gets Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance album and Motley Crue's Saints of Los Angeles, Guitar Hero III gets the Def Leppard track pack ($6.25), while Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore gets downloadable songs for $1.49 each. There are demos for Iron Man and echochrome, as well as the usual slew of game/movie trailers and PS3 themes.

Ubisoft reported sales figures for the Q4 of its fiscal year 2007/2008, with sales up 10%, full year sales up 36 % to $1.32 billion, mainly driven by strong performances from Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2, The Games For Everyone Brands and Assassin's Creed. Ubisoft also announced it will be recruiting for 900 positions in the next 12 months for its various studios.

38 Studios announced the expansion of its design team with the appointment of Travis McGeathy as systems design lead. Travis hails from SOE and joins his former co-workers at 38 Studios, Jason Roberts and Steve Danuser, who have been laying the groundwork in IP and game development in year one at the studio.
