After a failed attempt to get the Halo picture off the ground with Peter Jackson as the executive producer, Microsoft has been shopping around the Gears of War franchise to movie studios, and it seems New Line Cinema has managed to reel it in. Stuart Beattie, known for Collateral and Derailed, will be writing, and it will be produced by Temple Hill's Marty Bowen/Wyck Godfrey. Gears of War is an action game where hero Marcus Fenix is rescued from prison by a small group of elite soldiers to save planet Sera from an invasion of aliens known as the Locust.

Pandemic Studios is not only working on
Mercenaries 2, but according to the latest GameInformer issue, it has another WWII action game in development. Unlike most other WWII titles, Saboteur will feature an open-ended world. Think GTA, mixed with regular first-person action and stealth, where you, as a member of the French La Resistance, have to free Nazi-controlled zones. Reminiscent of Schindler's List, these zones will be displayed in black and white, but once successfully liberated, become colorized. Scheduled for 2008, no further details or platforms were disclosed, but it's safe to assume that it'll at least be on the PS3 and X360.
