Noticed on GamePRO that Enix announced early today that, effective November 26, they will begin to merge operations with Square to form Square Enix, a brand-new company created to compete in the world gaming marketplace on the same level as America and Europe's large third parties. The two companies aim to complete the merger by April 1, 2003 and will aim to build a new firm that will produce 80 billion yen ($656 million) in sales and 15 billion yen ($123 million) in profit by fiscal 2005.

Billy Martin, the award-winning composer whose outlets include such media icons as Walt Disney Pictures, Universal, Fox, the Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and ABC, has created the music for a trio of animated games centred on Disney’s feature film Treasure Island, which opens in theaters nationwide on November 27.

Sierra has just released the 1.2 Update for No One Lives Forever 2, adding multiplayer deathmatch mode, dedicated server support and a host of other updates. This version is required for online play. Sierra simultaniously released the first map pack which includes a set of new maps not included with the No One Lives Forever 2 CD-ROM. Map Pack #1 requires installation of the 1.2 Update. Carbon 6 has announced its first project 'American McGee's Oz'.. American McGee puts his signature touch on another classic children's tale. This time the Lands of Oz are visited in a prequel adventure to the original books that will take you on a colorful journey through a unique world filled with dozens of interesting characters and stories. "Oz offers a diverse world and large range of characters to explore and meet." said American from his Hollywood design studio, "I'm really excited to be working with such rich material and amazing technology." Oz is being produced for the Microsoft Xbox and PC and is scheduled for release some time in 2004. The Oz soundtrack is being produced by Media Ventures. A line of Oz toys will be hitting store shelves soon. A book and film deal are to be announced.

The Register report that after the launch of Microsoft's new multiplayer game - Asheron's Call 2 Fallen Kings - in the US and Canada has been mired in controversy after the giant software company admitted that the game is only available to subscribers in nine countries. Thousands of people around the world currently play Asheron's Call 1, an online role-playing game where players inhabit a 3D fantasy world. And many of this hardcore group of gamers have pre-ordered copies of the new game from Web sites outside of their own country. Now, many are up in arms after the launch of the latest much-anticipated game in North America, the game's producer has admitted that it cocked-up.

Newly formed Jaleco Entertainment has revealed it has secured the publishing rights to the GBA game Jazz Jackrabbit. This action platformer is the next evolution of the Jazz Jackrabbit license. The Austin based development team “Game Titan” has incorporated 4-player features to it’s “Tournament Mode” that will support single cartridge as well as multi-cartridge play. Microsoft Corp. today announced that the Xbox Live service, the first comprehensive, online game arena fully dedicated to fast-action broadband gaming experiences, has sold 150,000 Xbox Live Starter Kits. Because each Xbox Live account allows guest players, more than 200,000 players have already found their friends, talked trash, and started building their legends in the last week. Xbox Live is the first high-speed online console gaming service to reach these important milestones in the first week of service, including the first subscription-based broadband service to surpass 100,000 subscribers.

James Monroe, Ld. programmer at Ravensoft today updated his .plan file with information about that they just released: Star Trek Voyager : Elite Force Single Player Game Source (expansion version). Here is a clip:
Much like the game SDK for Multiplayer, this SDK will allow you to modify the menus and game behavior of Elite Force Single Player.

- Since this SDK is only the game source, you will not be able to change any features of the executable, like rendering or map loading.
- The DLLs you build with this source should work with the Expansion Pack EF Exe.
- The single player executable was not designed to read DLLs from base folders for mods.
- You will have to put your modified DLLs in their own folders, along with the stvoy.exe and add the command line +set fs_basepath [original install folder]
- This has not been tested in any way, but I wanted to get the source out there as quickly as possible.
