Playnet and Cornered Rat Software have released a major update to the massively multiplayer online game, World War II Online and announced an exclusive free trial for Macintosh users at Inside Mac Games. Version 1.8 has introduced several new features including updated terrain, new special effects, network update rate increase for better playability and the introduction of French, German and British 1941 vehicles to the European Theater of Operations. The Hawker Hurricane IIc, Supermarine Spitfire MkV, German Panzer III H and Daimler Mk I Armored Car are just some of the vehicles included.

Codemasters today confirms it has secured the global publishing rights to "World War II: RTS" (development title only) from 1C Company, the leading Russian game company renowned for the acclaimed flight simulator, IL-2 Sturmovik. Designed to take players closer to the entire, gruelling war experience than any strategy game previously, "World War II: RTS" will capture both the tactics and the emotions of being a commander in WWII’s key battles. The game has already attracted much attention for its historical detail and dramatic use of impressive visuals. The title is now in full development at 1C, with Codemasters consulting on game design; a release is planned in the spring of 2004. Check out six new ingame screens!

LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC today announced the resumption of its relationship with Lawrence Holland and his company Totally Games to develop a World War II flight combat game for next generation consoles and PC. Previous associations between LucasArts and Totally Games produced the critically acclaimed and best selling X-wing and TIE fighter series of Star Wars games, as well as Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe and Their Finest Hour: The Battle of Britain. The latter two games will serve as inspiration for the upcoming World War II flight combat title.
