Illuminate Labs announced a licensing agreement with Epic Games to incorporate its global illumination system into Epic's Unreal Engine 3, making its technology immediately available to any publishers or developers that license UE3.

38 Studios, founded by Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling, announced that Michael Kosenski has been appointed Vice President of Product Development. Director of PlayStation Network Operations Eric Lempel revealed that, at the request of the PS3 community, Sony is working on issueing PlayStation Network Cards, and should start appearing at retailers in early ‘08. The cards will be redeemable via the PlayStation Store for PC, and on the PS3 to supply the wallet with funds to spend on games, add-ons, and other paid content.

GRIN, known for developing the PC versions of Ubisoft's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, announced that it is opening a new studio in Gothenburg, Sweden early 2008, to work on a yet un-announced triple A sci-fi title. Currently working on Bionic Commando for Capcom, GRIN has satellite offices in Spain, Jakarta, and Japan.

Earlier this week, Harmonix accused Activision of blocking its software patch to make the PS3 version of Rock Band compatible with the GH3 peripherals. Today, Activision responded by issuing a statement blaming Harmonix for not accepting an "agreement" that would have allowed the use of Guitar Hero guitar controllers with Rock Band.

Sony has rolled out its weekly PlayStation Store update with tons of new material. Just like on XBL, EA has released the Burnout Paradise demo, and the latest Rock Band Punk song pack ($5.49 or $1.99/song). After its debut last week, High Velocity Bowling gets 2 new bowling characters ($0.99/each), and Need for Speed ProStreet gets several cars ($2.49/$4.99) otherwise unlockable as you progress through the career mode. As usual there is also a slew of game and movie trailers.

A year after its initial release Microsoft has launched XNA Game Studio 2.0, which adds more than 15 new features, not in the least the ability to create online, cross-platform multiplayer games for Xbox 360 and Windows using Xbox LIVE and Games for Windows Live.
