Today a federal judge put a temporary hold on the violent video game law banning sales of violent video games to minors which was to go in effect December 1, 2005. The Entertainment Software Association ands several other organizations challenged the law and Judge George Caram from the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan granted a preliminary injunction stating that the state had failed to show what harm could result from selling games to minors. Instead the judge claimed stifling free speech could cause more obvious harm.

Dimension Films has closed a North American distribution deal on "Castlevania," a thriller based on the Konami videogame franchise that Paul W.S. Anderson will adapt and direct. Midway today announced that it has signed an exclusive worldwide, multi-year agreement with TNA Entertainment to publish videogames based on Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, for consoles, handheld and PC. Last week Take 2's financial results revealed a substantial delay for Bethesda's RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Over the weekend PR Manager Pete Hines posted a community update giving more insight into the reason why: "In short, the game is coming out in early 2006 because it isn't done yet. We still have things that need to be done before the game is released. So we continue to optimize, test, balance, etc. We've already gone way beyond what we did in any game previously in playtesting and balancing this game. Way beyond. But there is work that needs to be done and so development continues to go on pretty much around the clock. We will not put out a more specific date until we are certain we will be ready then. "
