Konami announced today Yu-Gi-Oh! Ultimate Masters: World Championship Tournament 2006. The official video game of the 2006 Yu-Gi-Oh! World Tournament introduces all-new modes of play and marks the first appearance of cards from the Yu-Gi-Oh! GX universe based on the new television series.

Citing disappointing holiday sales revealed in its financial statement last week, Activision is handing pinkslips to about 150 people (7% of its workforce). Company spokesman Ashley Dyer said cuts were across the board, including various people at development studios. The layoffs had to happen in order to realign the company's operations for the next two years. CDV's latest real-time strategy title, American Conquest: Divided Nation, has gone gold today. The game, which will be in stores in early April, will have players re-enacting some of the grandest battles of 19th century America.

Revealed a few weeks ago, Activision today officially announced it has signed a licensing deal that grants Activision the global rights, excluding Japan, to develop console, handheld and PC games based on the Transformers brand. The first game will be tied to the much-anticipated July 4, 2007 movie release of the live action Transformers film.

Blitz Games today announced the signing of its first title for Nintendo's next generation Revolution console. Details of the game itself will be announced shortly by a major publisher.

According to its sources, GameIndustry.biz reports that British developer Lionhead Studios is in acquisition talks with platform holder Microsoft and French publisher Ubisoft. Electronic Arts has ruled out the possibility of acquiring the studio behind Fable and Black & White. None of the parties were willing to comment, although Lionhead did confirm the talks, which occur frequently.

Guild Wars developers ArenaNet and NCsoft announce that they will be giving fans a chance to preview Guild Wars Factions ahead of time, on March 24, 2006. Players around the globe are invited to participate in the Guild Wars Factions Preview Event, an exclusive and one-time opportunity unlike any offered before.

NCsoft North America has released Chronicle 4: Scions of Destiny, an expansion that adds 800 megabytes of new content and features to its PvP MMO Lineage II: The Chaotic Chronicle, adding the high-level hunting areas Rune and Godard, a new castle in Godard, the nearly invincible fire dragon Valakas, and a fishing system.

Galactic Civilizations II takes place in the distant future, when mankind has become a space-faring civilization and must contend with other extraterrestrial powers for domination of the galaxy. The sequel is a true evolution for the series, with rethought fundamentals and exciting new changes.
