Activision and Viacom have settled their dispute over video games based on the "Star Trek" franchise. All lawsuits related to the dispute have been dismissed, but settlement terms were not disclosed.
Activision sued Viacom in July 2003, claiming Viacom diminished the value of the "Star Trek" game license by not promoting the latest "Trek" series or making new "Trek" movies or TV shows. Viacom countered at the time that the suit was just a ploy to renegotiate the license.

Viacom Consumer Products Senior Director Harry Lang has posted over at
Star Trek Gaming Universe giving an update on the state of Star Trek gaming. The
previously announced Star Trek Online is deep in design, and is set for beta sometime in 2006, release sometime in 2007. Harry also revealed that several all-new singleplayer/multiplayer Star Trek games, specifically mentioned "strategy" genre, are being discussed, as well as the resurrection of a previously cancelled ST game, as well as a project that would involve the modding scene exclusively.

Activision Inc. filed a breach of contract suit alleging media giant Viacom Inc. isn't adequately exploiting the Star Trek franchise, thereby diminishing the value of the video game developer's license to produce Star Trek-themed games. In 1998, Activision entered a 10-year licensing arrangement with Viacom that gave it exclusive rights to produce Star Trek titles across all gaming platforms.

Activision has released the, unsupported, beta update for Ritual's newly available sci-fi FPS "Star Trek Elite Force II", bringing the dedicated Win32 server to v1.01. a note on the Ritualistic forums with an update on their plans for the Star Trek: Elite Force II (already available in Europe, coming later this week in North America). Specifically a beta fix will soon be tested and later released for dedicated servers to no longer require the game to be in the CD-Rom drive, as well as mod tools for the community.
