Two major studios halted all UMD support while others are debating scaling back production, and Wal-Mart is said to be taking UMDs off the shelves. Universal Studios calls it, "[A]wful. Sales are near zilch. It's another Sony bomb -- like Blu-ray." Sony wants to reinvigorate interest by discussing plans for making the PSP able to connect to TV sets.

Merely a few days after the announcement that Shadowbane will be free for all to play, Ubisoft hands pink slips to all Wolfpack Studios employees and sends them packing. Reason for the closure is that Ubisoft is refocusing its efforts on the console market with the new fiscal year. Shadowbane launched 3 years ago as the first MMO to offer a Dynamic World Model, in which players' actions and decisions permanently change the history, politics and landscape of the game. What will happen to the actual game/servers is unknown at this point.

Already dated a month ago, it seems Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth developers Headfirst Productions has gone into administration which will lead to the company being dismantled and all its assets sold. The GalCiv II demo will allow you to play as the humans and to test your strength against three other races. Stardock will release a single-player demo on Thursday 12pm PST (9pm Euro time), and we will, of course, have it available on our fileserver network.

While there has been any official announcement yet, at last week's GDC SNK revealed that, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the franchise, it is bringing Metal Slug to the PSP. As the Metal Slug Collection title indicates this will not be an all new product but rather a compilation of Metal Slug 1 through 5, including Metal Slug X. Metal Slug Collection will be a port of the classic arcade titles and will feature 2 player coop.
